Celebrate Mother’s Day with Maropeng

Fossils discovered today provide numerous clues as to how life existed on Earth millions of years ago. Have you ever wondered how hominid families interacted with each other, or what the dynamics were between mother and child?

The discovery of Australopithecus sediba is likely to provide answers to at least some of these questions. Found in 2008, in the Malapa fossil site in the Cradle of Humankind, Australopithecus sediba is not only of vital importance in terms of piecing together the evidence for human evolution, but also serves as a reminder that there was a lot more to the lives of early hominids than cold, hard fossils tell us. The sediba fossils are speculated to be of a young child and its mother, who had both crawled into a cave – possibly in search of water – and died together, their remains lying undiscovered for nearly 2-million years.

Visit Maropeng this Mother’s Day and learn more about our fascinating journey from early hominids to the advanced Homo sapiens we are today. Enjoy a delicious carvery lunch at the Tumulus Restaurant for R175 per adult and R75 per child aged 5 – 12. A surprise gift will ensure that mom feels truly appreciated on this special day.

The hotel is also running a weekend accommodation special at R1 000 per person, per night, for dinner bed and breakfast.
